AXIS-Y | 611 Toner & Ampoule

Early this year, a brand named Axis-y caught my attention. It was from their giveaway that I’ve known them and from there, a lot has changed! Long story short, I was the grand prize winner for their win a trip to Seoul last April! Check it out here. I met with the team and the founder, Maggie. She mentioned that she wanted to create a product that would best suit her skin. She has an oily skin like me so I was really excited to try their products.

They are a newly founded Korean brand that focuses on creating climate-based products. They call it ~ Climate Inspired Skin Care.

Let’s talk about their 6+1+1 Advanced Formula™ which embodies these concepts: Natural, Minimal & Science.

You can find a lot of information about the product & brand here.

I was able to try 2 of their products from the 611 line, the Daily Purifying Treatment Toner and Artichoke Intensive Skin Barrier Ampoule. During our talks in their headquarters I found out that the founder, Maggie has an oily skin type. The reason why most of the products targets oily rich skin.

◤It has a refreshing scent which I enjoy (very minimal so good for scentsitive)

◤ Has a bit of cooling effect, yeaaaah!

◤ 0% tackiness! I mean gurl, it’s very lightweight and it’s easily absorbed by the skin. This is best for summer and countries that has hot & humid weather (Hello Philippines!)

◤ It has a watery texture so I prefer using it with a cotton pad.

◤ Contains 110,000 ppm of centella & 10,000 ppm tea tree. These ingredients are perfect for acne-prone skin because of its anti-inflammatory properties.

◤ No irritations/purging – it only contains 0.5% amount of BHA in the form of Salicylic Acid so it’s safe to use everyday. This is specially formulated for oily skin so I suggest if you have dry skin, you might want to follow up with a hydrating essence/ampoule. I use their artichoke ampoule which is very hydrating!

◤ I noticed that my skin feels smoother with continuous use. I used it everyday and I’m almost half of the bottle! I specially love the effect on my skin every time I use it, smoother. There are other toners with the same effect but this one doesn’t give you the tingling/stinging sensation so I prefer this. I can say it can also be used by those who have acne-prone & sensitive skin because it’s mild.

◤ Used it for a month and I can say it slowly helped in controlling my oiliness! (I have oily, acne-prone skin)

◤ I prefer using this in the morning as I want to have a lightweight routine. At night time I usually go for a hydrating/ more occlusive routine. BALANCE!

Overall I really enjoyed using this toner specially in this summer! The texture is perfect for our hot & humid weather as some toners tend to be sticky & heavy during Summer (March-May). It did wonders on my textured/rough skin. You can immediately feel the difference once the toner is absorbed. It feels really smooth. I would definitely recommend this to oily, acne-prone and also textured skin!

Oily Skin Approved!

Artichoke Intensive Skin Barrier Ampoule

I’m so excited to share with you a product that has become my new favorite!

When I was just starting to know “Skin Care”. I really didn’t get the concept of skin barrier. But now when I heard it from products like ‘repair your skin barrier‘ ~ it sparks joy in me. Why? Because our skin barrier is very important, it’s the top most part of your skin that is visible.

Let’s dig deep onto this.

What is Skin Barrier?

Other terms are moisture barrier/lipid barrier

It is the outermost layer of our epidermis which acts as the protective layer. Its function is to keep harmful external factors out and locks moisture in. So basically it keeps the good stuff in and the bad stuff out. So once we have damaged skin barrier it will not function well, making your skin exposed to harmful bacteria. You’ll noticed that your skin is prone to breakouts, it oils up like crazy and it’s dehydrated. So what you need to do is make sure your skin is nourished, moisturized and hydrated well.

What you can do:

  • Simplify your routine!
  • Use a gentle cleanser!
  • Use products that contains ceramides, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, linoleum acid, squalene and fatty acids.
  • Avoid irritants, allergens like essential oils, frangrance
  • Use 1 active at a time.
  • Eat a lot of omega rich foods.

What to Avoid:

  • Using harsh cleansers – those that gave you tight and squeaky clean cleansers are a No No (alkaline)
  • Over-exfoliation (physically and chemically) Meaning don’t overdue your acids. And don’t exfoliate everyday! 2-3 times a week should be fine.
  • Changing skincare often (reviewers will get this a lot) As a product reviewer you get to try a lot of different products that may sensitized your skin.
  • Overdoing your skincare routine – using too many products! 10 steps is overrated, let your skin breathe specially if your breaking out.

Artichoke is the star ingredient and do you know that this is a superfood! They are rich in antioxidants and aids in detoxification. Some ingredients are Cica and tea tree which is popularly know for their anti-inflammatory properties.

When I got back from Korea last April, I’ve been having breakouts on my chin. Like crazy breakouts! Probably because of the change of weather? It was super cold in SoKor and super hot, humid in the Philippines. It was these sudden change of weather that disrupted my skin barrier. I was getting 2-3 acne that is painful and huge! And once 1 healed, another one pops out! I’ve tried my normal breakout routine, used spot treatments and it doesn’t seem to stop. I make sure that my skin feels hydrated too. I minimized my routine to let my skin breathe. And then I tried this ampoule. I noticed after a few weeks of using this, my skin started to heal faster. It also helped my skin stay hydrated. This has been a staple in my routine ever since so I’m so close to emptying this any time now.

Consistency is thick but once you spread it on your skin, it turns watery. It feels super hydrating! The smell is a very light, fresh scent that dissipates after a while. The texture doesn’t feel sticky and is easily absorbed – perfect for the hot weather.

Ampoules are supercharged serums with high concentration of active ingredients. Although it’s safe to use everyday, I suggest you use this only when your skin needs it (compromised skin barrier) or just 3 a week. I already consumed 3/4 of the product and I’m loving it! Would definitely repurchase this one.
